STATE SENATOR JOHN SMITH AWARDED PUBLIC OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR FROM ASSOCIATION OF SOCIAL WORKERS

HONORED FOR HIS LEGISLATIVE LEADERSHIP IN HUMAN AND SOCIAL SERVICES

District 30 State Senator John Smith (D-Leesville) received the Public Official of the Year Award from the Louisiana Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. The award honors public elected officials who demonstrate leadership qualities in the field of human services, exemplify personal and professional integrity in an effort to help people, and show a willingness to take risks for improved social services.

"What a great honor to have been chosen for this award," said Senator Smith. "I certainly support social workers and understand what a great contribution they make to our state. I think it is important that we dedicate the kind of resources to human and social services that will help make this state a better place for all citizens and I'm willing to keep up that fight."

The National Association of Social Workers is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world. Their mission is to promote quality, integrity, unification and effectiveness of the Social Work profession while supporting social workers in their mission to serve diverse populations, and to ensure justice, equality, and opportunity for all citizens. The Louisiana Chapter currently has over 2600 members employed in every sector of social, educational, and health services around the state.
