STATE SEN. QUINN COMMENDS GROUP RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS OF GOVERNMENT’S ROLE IN LEVEE BREACH

Following the failure of the New Orleans levees after Hurricane Katrina, there was plenty of blame to go around. But District 6 State Senator Julie Quinn (R-Metairie) is publicly recognizing one group that has been especially vocal in its criticism of the federal government. The public advocacy group Levees.org, after devoting extensive time, resources and energy to studying the events since Hurricane Katrina, has called on the Army Corps of Engineers to be accountable for the flooding and devastation in the New Orleans area.

Senator Quinn passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 89 in the recently completed special session, commending Levees.org for its work in raising public awareness about the levees and the disastrous planning and design problems that led to their catastrophic failure.

"I am grateful to Levees.org for their campaign to hold the corps accountable for their role in the levee breaches. This group knew from the outset that the corps was responsible, and it was in large part due to pressure from Levees.org that the corps finally accepted that responsibility," Senator Quinn said.
