LOUISIANA SENATE TO
HOLD MILITARY FAMILY DAY IN HONOR OF LOUISIANA’S FALLEN HEROES
The Louisiana State Senate will hold Military Family Day to honor
Louisiana's Fallen Heroes on Wednesday, June 4 during the legislative
session at the State Capitol.
By declaration of Senate Resolution 58, authored by
Senator Robert M. Marionneaux, Jr.
(D-Grosse Tete), the Louisiana Senate will recognize and honor those
Louisianians serving in the U.S. military who have sacrificed their
lives in defense of our freedoms in Afghanistan and Iraq. This year, a
balloon release will be held on the steps of the State Capitol preceding
the legislative session and resolutions honoring and remembering 12
fallen heroes will be introduced by Senator Marionneaux during the
session. The 115th Military Intelligence Company Color Guard, the Blue
Star Mothers of Louisiana, and the Louisiana National Guard State
Chaplain Walter J. Austin will be included in the program. The families
of the fallen soldiers are invited to the Capitol to be a part of the
balloon release and the program during the legislative session. Since
the 2005 Regular Session, Senator Marionneaux and the Louisiana Senate,
have honored 108 fallen soldiers.
“It is important to us in state government that we officially recognize
and acknowledge these brave Louisianans and their families for the
sacrifices made by them for our state and nation. We have not forgotten
and will never forget our fallen heroes or the many brave men and women
currently fighting for our freedom overseas. We are sensitive to the
needs of our soldiers and will continue honoring them until every
soldier comes home.” Sen. Marionneaux said.
Military guests are welcome to participate in the balloon release which
will take place on the steps of the state capitol at 12:30 pm and in the
legislative session which will take place in the Senate Chamber at 1:30
p.m. on Wednesday, June 4. The following soldiers will be recognized:
Sergeant Timothy Cole, Jr., Sergeant First Class John Hennen, Specialist
Charles Leonard, Jr., Corporal Chris LeBleu, Specialist Marisol Heredia,
Staff Sergeant Jarred Fontenot, Staff Sergeant Michael Gabel, Sergeant
Joseph Richard III, Sergeant Brandon Boudreaux, Sergeant Terrell
Gilmore, Private First Class Thomas Adams, Jr, and Chief Warrant Officer
Terry Thomas. The Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana will also be recognized
during Military Family Day for their tireless efforts in promoting
patriotism and supporting Louisiana soldiers and their families.
