Biography

  • Life-long Louisiana resident
  • Grew up in Winn Parish
  • Graduated from Winnfield High School in 1962
  • Graduated Northwestern State University in 1966
  • Bachelors Degree in Education with Social Studies
  • Minor in English
  • Taught at Houma Junior High School and Leesville High School
  • Started a career in the Insurance Business
  • Retired from State Farm Insurance in 1999
  • Served as area representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes along with his wife Rose

  • Worked in 10 parishes for eight years
  • Servicing 80 junior high & high schools along with two universities
  • Elected State Senator for District 31 in November 2007

  • Represents Natchitoches, Winn, Grant, Sabine, and parts of Red River & Rapides parishes
  • Appointed to serve on the following committees and commission:

  • Insurance, Vice Chairman
  • Agriculture
  • Education
  • Finance
  • Revenue & Fiscal Affairs
  • Select Committee on Homeland Security
  • Louisiana Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission
  • Married to Rose Landry Long

    • Three Children
    • Eight Grandchildren

  • Member and Past President of the Natchitoches Kiwanis Club
  • Member of Natchitoches Chamber of Commerce
  • Member of NSU Athletic Board of Directors
  • Member and Deacon of First Baptist Church of Natchitoches
  • Elected Man of the Year by the Professional Business Women of Natchitoches, 2005
