SENATOR HEITMEIER APPLAUDS VSP VISION CARE'S EFFORTS TO PROVIDE FREE EYE CARE & EYE WEAR TO HURRICANE VICTIMS

URGES DISASTER VICTIMS TO ACCESS FREE CARE

District 7 State Senator David Heitmeier (D-Algiers) applauds the efforts of Vision Service Plan (VSP) to help the victims of Hurricanes Gustav and Ike in Louisiana. The nation's largest eyecare coverage provider is offering citizens across the state impacted by the storms free eye care and eye wear. VSP provided 200 gift certificates for those in need of exams and glasses to use at any VSP provider in Louisiana.

"We certainly appreciate VSP stepping up to help our citizens impacted by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike with their eyecare needs," Sen. Heitmeier said. "While the national media have mostly focused on Texas, we all know that every parish in this state was impacted in some way by the two storms. I have a personal appreciation of the importance of access to eyecare particularly at a time when families are struggling to recover from two major hurricanes disrupting their lives."

Of the 200 gift certificates for free eyecare initially provided by VSP, there are 140 still available to those in need. Storm victims in need of eyecare assistance should contact their state senator for additional information regarding the VSP gift certificates. Sen. Heitmeier is also working with parish officials in the storm-impacted areas to make sure citizens know the eyecare help is available.

In addition to providing assistance to victims of hurricanes and other disasters, VSP Vision Care partners with charitable groups and network doctors to bring eyecare and eyewear to people in need across the nation. VSP allows their employees to take two weeks of their time every year to work with their mobile eyecare clinic program.
