SENATE COMMITTEE TO HOLD SPECIAL MEETING ON
PROPOSED LA CITIZENS PROPERTY INSURANCE RATE INCREASES
SENATOR GAUTREAUX ENCOURAGES PUBLIC TO ATTEND
District 26 State
Senator Nick Gautreaux (D-Meaux) is concerned about the upcoming
property insurance rate increases proposed by the Louisiana Citizens
Property Insurance Corporation. He is encouraging the public to attend a
special meeting hosted by the Senate Committee on Insurance to discuss
the proposal and other issues related to property insurance. The meeting
will take place at 6pm, Thursday, July 17th at the Vermillion Courthouse
in Abbeville. Senator Gautreaux says this is an opportunity for citizens
to voice their concerns and get any questions about the rate increase
answered.
"I want to thank my colleagues on the Insurance Committee for hosting
these meetings," said Senator Gautreaux. "This is an issue that's very
important to the residents of southwest Louisiana, especially as we
continue to rebuild our communities after the hurricanes of 2005. We
have to do everything we can to make sure that people have access to
affordable property insurance. It's vital to our safety, our economy and
our future."
Senator Gautreaux has fought long and hard to bring affordable property
insurance to the people living in the coastal areas of the state. Just
last year he authored legislation that removed the 10%
over-market-average charge when Citizens Property Insurance is the only
company providing coverage in the parish. He says that the state must
work hard to find creative solutions in solving the lack of available
property insurance in Southwest Louisiana and public meetings like the
ones being held by the Senate Committee on Insurance is a positive step
forward.
