SENATE EDUCATION/FINANCE
COMMITTEE MEETING
Wednesday, March 3, 1999
Since the 1998 Regular Session, the Senate committees on education and finance have
held a series of special interim hearings to discuss various issues related to public
elementary and secondary education. As part of a cooperative effort, Senators requested
certain reports be produced and submitted to the committees to assist in their efforts to
improve public education in Louisiana.
The following report is in response to Senate
Resolution No. 24 of the 1998 Regular Session, requesting the Louisiana Department of
Education to collect, study and analyze data from the local school districts on extended
sick leave benefits (also known as Gayle Pay) and sabbatical leave for the purpose of rest
and recuperation.
Note: The source of the research is indicated on the report.
(5.7MB) - February, 1999: Report from BESE pursuant to SR 24 of the
