DISTRICT 2 CEC AND SENATOR DUPLESSIS RECOGNIZE WOMEN ON ASSIGNMENT DURING BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

  On Saturday, October 4, 2008, State Senator Ann Duplessis and the District 2 Community Enhancement Corporation will celebrate with the Women On Assignment at the 2nd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Health Expo and Luncheon at the Sheraton Galleria Hotel at # 4 Galleria Blvd. in Metairie, LA at 10 a.m.

  Senator Duplessis and th District 2 Community Enhancement Corporation have partnered with Women on Assignment to raise awareness of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October and to put emphasis on important life saving practices including monthly self-exams and yearly mammograms for women age 40 and older. Senator Duplessis will also present the Women on Assignment with a proclamation for outstanding spiritual guidance and community service.

  According to th American Cancer Society, over 178,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to occur among women in the United States during 2008. Over 40,000 women will die from breast cancer.

  "I am proud to be a part of this event to promote awareness among my constituents of a disease that has touched so many," says Duplessis. "Early detection is extremely important and the month of October is a reminder to women that small steps can save their lives."
