Senate President John Hainkel received and accepted
the resignation of Louisiana Legislative Auditor Dan Kyle after a
personal visit with the auditor. Kyle submitted his resignation
effective the close of the business day Friday, January 17, 2003.
"I have had occasion to work with Dan Kyle
throughout his career. He has provided extraordinarily competent
service for the state of Louisiana," Senator Hainkel said.
Senate President Hainkel asked Senator Tom Schedler,
who chairs the Legislative Audit Advisory Council, to immediately
undertake the required procedure to search for Kyle's successor and to
insure the smooth, continued operation of the office in the interim.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Dan Kyle
over the past five years, first as a member and now as chairman of the
Legislative Audit Advisory Council. He has done a yeoman's job of
protecting the taxpayer dollar and I wish him the best," Senator
Schedler said. "I along with the legislative leadership will move
expediently to select an interim auditor and to recommend to the full
legislature a permanent replacement. An interim auditor will be
appointed by Monday morning."
State law provides for the Senate president and
president pro tempore, the House speaker and speaker pro tempore, the
chair and vice-chair of the Legislative Audit Advisory Council, along
with the chair or vice-chair of the Senate Finance committee, the
Senate Revenue and Fiscal Affairs committee, the House Appropriations
committee, the House Ways and Means committee and the Senate and House
Governmental Affairs committees, to serve on the Special
Recommendation Commission. The commission nominates a person or
persons to fill the legislative auditor post. The auditor is appointed
to the position by a majority vote of the legislature.
